Somebody Has a Girl Crush

[Def]:  girl crush: an overwhelming sense of awe felt by a girl for another girl elicited by varying causes ranging from deep respect to unadulterated lust. May result in the any or all of the following: general euphoria, prolonged sense of inspiration, desire for intellectual-intercourse with crush etc.

[Ex] “{insert girl-crush} is such a badass in deathproof, i am completely amazed at what she is capable of. she is my new girl crush”

[Def 2.] The admiration one girl has for another. It could be to do with hair, body, make-up, car, clothes, career, talents etc. Completely non-sexual. Girl crushes are generally very short-lived, as girls move on very quickly from trends.

(via urbandictionary).

There it is. The girl crush. And I have a couple. Girl crushes are completely innocent, flattering, and utterly natural. You can be completely straight and simply be awe-inspired by beauty or talent. We all probably have them and (in my opinion) we need them. Girl crushes keep us motivated to make our dreams come true, and never allow us to settle. Don’t worry, men have them too! The most popular man-crushes I’ve heard of are; Sydney Crosby, Tanner Riggs, Tiger Woods, Bradley Cooper…you know the bit.

Let’s take a lookie at my personal girl crushes:

1. Carrie Underwood

First of all, she conquered every girls dream. She made Simon Cowell smile, landed a record deal, lost 20 pounds and attacked country music. The woman is insanely successful, extraordinarily beautiful (um, hello blond extensions and 800 miles legs).  Within weeks she was super duper stylish, shattering the record charts, and dating mega-hottie, Mike Fischer. Woman – I want, your life.

2. Chelsea Handler

This one is a no brainer.  She’s the kind of girl you want to have cocktails with and talk sh*t about everybody. The minute I cracked open ‘Horizontal Life’ I couldn’t stop laughing at every witty sentence she spewed out onto paper. The one liners, the quotes, the raw truth, Chuy, Lean Cousines, Belvadeer vodka. All of it. I love it.

3. Lauren Conrad

This is one girl-crush I don’t understand. She is really normal, kind of boring and she wrote a book about her own reality TV show called; L.A. Candy. But I think the simplicity of Lauren Conrad is what gets me. She’s flawless, and wrote the book that she knew was inside of her. That is inspiring. And I want her closet.

4. Blake Lively

Self explanatory. She is the girl-crush that sometimes makes me hate myself.

🙂

[Final Note] On asking my dad if he had a man-crush:

“No. Isn’t that a gay thing?”

“Dad, isn’t there anyone that inspires you, someone you want to be?”

“No. Just me.”

A man of few words…

I secretly have a girl crush on Olivia Palermo. I hate that I do. It’s her nose or something. I agree about Chelsea H – LOVE her with all my heart and soul. And Penelope Cruz. Have you ever heard her speak? If I could just talk like that for like 10 seconds. It’s ridic.

Is it weird that I have a girl crush on Ellen DeGeneres? Seriously, that woman is amazing! I envy all that she is and will be. Just thought I’d throw that one out there! 🙂

I don’t think guys have man crushes as much as you think we do. We usually have mentors or role models instead.

I think a big part of it is that “man crush” does sound gay, even if it isn’t. Sad but true.

That’s funny you say that (my father seems to think the same thing). Me and Kate just took it upon ourselves to ask P.A. if he had a man-crush. His response? “That’s not a SEXUAL thing is it?” After clarifying it was not, he responded immediatly with “Brett Favre.”
